However, the duo have decided to part ways due to his sexuality, which was not easy. Chris shared that he was so confused and depressed at one point that he decided to end his own life as he thought that it would be 'better for them (his kids) to have a dad that was dead than a dad that was gay'.

Chris Appleton felt that his life was messed up for his kids as he had come out. His job was to protect them, but he was the only one who was hurting them and said, 'My job as a dad was to protect my kids. I just didn't want them to ever have that shame put on them. In a way, it felt like a disease; it felt like cancer, and I wanted to cut it out. Like, 'If I could just get rid of that, then I could be a good dad.' In an attempt to end his life, Chris brought some painkillers and a bottle of alcohol and booked himself into a hotel to end his life, but luckily he survived. However, he has no idea who this new Chris is and is now married to YOU star Lukas Gage.
